Namitha, Mandira Bedi and Sherin compete for Simbu

Kettavan and Kaalai are the upcoming films of Simbu which are getting canned at a steady pace. In Kettavan, Simbu has taken charge of story, screenplay and dialogues besides acting and the film is being directed by Nandu and produced by Trichy Viswanathan. S S Music VJ Lekha Washington plays Simbu’s love interest in the film.

Namitha was touted to play the other heroine in Kettavan. However due to some unrealistic demands and high remuneration, Namitha is being dropped from the film.

Meanwhile, to play this role, there has been a stringent competition from two other ladies viz. Mandira Bedi and Sherin. Mandira Bedi has already featured with Simbu in Manmadan and when she was approached she was too willing to be cast along side Simbu. In the intervening time, having heard about this coveted position of Simbu’s heroine being vacant, Sherin has expressed her desire to fill up this spot. It has also been said that the lady is too keen on this role.

When this matter was broached with little super star, he says, “Namitha was the first one who was chosen for this role which will have two song sequences and five to six scenes. Namitha happens to be one of my good friends who also happen to be a good artist. But the demands laid by her manager had upset the producer who is seeking an alternate to her role and has met Mandira Bedi in this regard. However Sherin is also vying for this role and now I am totally baffled as to whom to cast in this role.” It sure is a tough call for Simbu when he has to choose between the beauties of the tinsel town.

Simbu’s Next - Madayan

Simbu does his balancing act very well. Yes. We are talking about both his Ks – Kettavan and Kaalai – and both are progressing very well. But rumour mills have it that the little star is more interested in Kettavan. When we probed into the Kaalai camp to know their state of mind over this issue, it became evident that actor was not partial to their project.

Well, the reason for the rumours could be due to the heavy promos that Kettavan has been creating. Perhaps, the star wants to cash in on these promos because at the start of every schedule the Kettavan team comes up with a set of posters.

Amidst all this, Simbu has squeezed in time to write a story and script for his next movie. Interestingly, this project has been titled Madayan. Whether Simbu will wield the megaphone or entrust the work to someone else is a million dollar question.

The tag of glamdoll sits well on Namitha. The tall, buxom girl from Surat has become popular in Tamil cinema.

Not averse to glamour roles, Namitha is now part of movies starring biggies such as Vijay, Ajit and Silambarasan.

An avid reader of books and a fitness freak Namitha says, ' when I am not shooting, I spend my time either at the gym doing my workouts or reading books'.

Born in a family of entrepreneurs, Namitha won a beauty pageant show, which gave her the confidence to try her skill before the camera.

Namitha started her career with Engal Anna in Tamil followed by Aye, Chanakya among others.

Happy being branded as a glamour actress, Namitha says, ' I am satisfied with that tage. People come to theatres to see me. And I am recognised as a crowd-puller'.

Movies up on her sleeves include Ajith starrer Billa, Azhagiya Thamizh Magan with Vijay and Kettavan opposite Silambarasan. She has been signed to act in a Kannada movie with Darshan.

In a candid interview to News Today, Namitha speaks about her aspirations.

Q: What are the emotional aspects involved in doing glamour roles, since you are seen only as an 'show pony'?

A: I am very happy, I derive satisfaction from doing such roles and at the end of the day, I am elated to have done justice to them.

I strongly believe that even by doing minuscule roles, I can garner the attention of movie buffs. However my roles in movies including Aye and Chanakya had more scope for me to showcase my skill.

Q: What the essential differences between Tamil and Gujarati audiences in appreciating artistry?

A: Be it anywhere, the passion for arts and crafts remains the same. Creativity and imagination are welcomed anywhere in the globe. Arts and entertainment have no boundaries thanks to technological innovation.

Q: How do you adjust yourself working in different languages?

A: Language is no barrier. I understand my character, assimilate it and do my homework before the shooting.

I am acting in Telugu, Kannada and Tamil movies simultaneously. For me, language has never been a problem.

Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a celebrity?

A: I enjoy recognition. People flock to see an actress. I feel such attention would help me my bit for society.

On the other hand, I cannot be part of all social get-together due to my celebrity status.

Q: How do you unwind yourself from your busy work schedule?

A: When I am not shooting, I spend my time at the gym or reading books.
